What Wizards Taught Me: August 8

Definitely a bit of a a show and tell theme this week. Clearly some interesting things happened around the world that brush up beside Terra Magica.
And check it out! I finally found a female wizard image for WWTM. The absence of one irked me on sexist grounds. Now, however, I’m not sure if it isn’t just a little bit racist.
The quest continues.
What happens when you try to liberate a Goetic demon?
Weirdness is what happened. I’d never even considered this.
Related to one of my recent posts regarding the chaos magic wishing board, although with less reference to Futurama.
You initially overestimate, then underestimate your own abilities
This definitely explains a lot. A whole lot.
How you can combine multiple Google accounts into one
Unbelievably handy. Not something a wizard specifically taught me, but definitely of use to wizards.
Neat.
Rowan has a ‘grass is greener’ moment about living in the UK
It’s not all Morris dancing and wassailing, let me tell you. And we don’t even have Jamba Juice.
Archaeologists find a tunnel beneath the Temple of The Feathered Serpent
See what I mean by show and tell? I love weeks like this.
Brother Chris weighs up the pros and cons of swastika use
It’s definitely a tough one.
Z.E. finds a great CNN interview with Anne Rice regarding her recent decision
In which she elaborates a little bit more. Doesn’t change my opinion of Joy Behar in the slightest. I don’t imagine anything will.
There may not have been a big bang
My money’s still on holographic universe. Hopefully this discovery won’t affect The Big Bang Theory because it rocks.
V.V.F wins ‘best Lugh post’ this year
Check it out. It’s fantastic. It’s given me a whole bunch of new material to work with.
Still with giving chaos magic a bad name
This article doesn’t begin well, and the first anecdote caused me to let out a long sigh. But it gets better.
The Abbey of Cefalu is for sale for €1.5 million
Could have sworn it was only €250K – €300K last time I checked. Oh well, guess it’s not for me, then.
Sarah talks magic circles and the World Tree
Great post, whatever your opinion of using magic circles happens to be.
Jow is treating life as his career
Naturally, this appeals to me… What with the whole ‘integration’ kick I’m on. Also, I’m rather looking forward to the lecture.
RO ponders a gap in the blogosphere’s coverage
I have my own thoughts on this, which you can read in the comments on his excellent post.
As do I. Very much. She is there during some glorious summer days (at last! One year out of three isn’t great). I was there in winter.
C’est ça. Have a great week, kids.

Lugh: More awesome than you have been led to believe.
That first link is exciting. Now I want to do more exciting things.
V.V.F.´s last [type] ..So I fibbed
Great post. Re the wizard-woman pic: she appears Asian, and makes “Asian-wizard-lady” look like a good thing: is that racist? Re negativity: it’s not a good idea to “eliminate the negative” all the time: if you weigh 70 lbs and think you’re fat, yes, you need to eliminate the negative self-image: but if you’re a prisoner in a jail, then make bond and don’t get caught next time, eliminating the negative image “jailbird” won’t help: if your only prison is negativity itself, then you’ve died, gone to Purgatory and are only one small step from Heaven. RO’s point is fascinating, I wish people were more open about their magical and/or mystical experiences and not (only) to brag about them but to express and share wonderment and awe. And my bet is the cosmic background radiation is local to our “small” corner of the physical universe and there was no Big Bang, maybe a (all things considered) Little Bang.
