This was fun. Not only did I get to guest-host one of the very best podcasts out there (the best, maybe?) but it came with the opportunity to interview someone I have wanted to talk to for years: None other than plasma physicist Dr John Brandenburg -whose research into the levels of Xenon 129 in the Martian atmosphere even makes a brief appearance in Pieces of Eight.
When you spend as much time on Skype as I do you get used to its inevitable drop-outs. With this interview it was off the charts. I eventually had to Skype Dr Brandenburg’s landline and they still didn’t stop it. I’m 90% convinced this was a spook wink in the good doctor’s direction -something he’s experienced for years. When he opened up Skype at the allotted time, it had someone switched its language from English to Arabic (!) overnight. (I remind you he is a plasma physicist who is regularly interviewed so he knows how to use a platform that grandparents quickly become proficient in.)
Anyway, despite the technological challenges -ones that Alex had to solve in editing rather than me, thankfully (sorry Alex!)- it was a double pleasure to talk to Dr B and pretend to be Alex Tsakiris for a couple of hours.
